i took a jet airways flight from delhi on return to madras..dunno this whole trip had been retro for me..this was no diff..the 2 seats on either side was 2 Tambhram maamis ..all friends and i was smack in the middle..i thgt its gnna be my longest trip back home(esp. considering einstines theory of relativity "old - is long")...but as i was chking my life jacket down(underneath the seat) and jus inspecting my seat,i cld see all the maamis in thier brand new addidas shoes..thier watch a hi-fi pierre cardin ladieswatch..was like a batch of 60's fashion skool alumini reunion :)!!
after the aircraft took off and set for cruise, the first maam told the second lady " u know this feels like i;m going from boston to new york" (dont remeber the exact places they said)...and the second lady says " yea, how abt our next trip to pittsburg"..[ALL IN TYPICAL TAMBHRAM style]..and i was thrown aback that i felt like a krishna amidst Mrs.gopikas:P (NOT miss. gopikas)!!...
then they went deeper into american geography, the distances, hrs of travel between each city and big time casual talks..i felt tiny amng that kitty party there!! as soon as they said "SRIRANGAM"..i laughed and told them one side of my family is there and have visited the temple there few times....and they were all delgihted...then they started telling me abt the temples in pittsburgh..." uknow ajay, its so beautiful, clean and i love it....after the temple we have a nice walk, have icecreames, candies and then go home....u must defently comethere, there r lot of ppl from srirangam there:P"....finding out their casuallness and progressive talks..immedialty touched thier weakness..told them" u must defnelty find a gurl from srirangam or its equivalent - california ":P!!"thats it ..from 40000ft they flew offto 80000ft as soon as i started abt theier most lovable topics, arranging marriages and sprituality...they were al sides happy and suddenly the youth in them bursted..the joy of a infant/child and of a elderly is unmatched in its natural,genuine, innocent charm!!.." they said sure sure, whynot,i will see like i see for my sons"!!
as soon as i saw this casuality and easinees i took it to the nextstep..ofcourse with slight nervousness, but cldnt shut my mouth either ..told them (in my slight srirangam accent - tamil)"MAAMI, YOU ALL LOOK CHEERFUL AND BEAUTIFUL IN THIS AGE, JUS WONDERING HOW YOU ALL WOULDHAVE BEEN 30-40 YRS BACK AND HOW YOUR DAUGHTERS WOULDBE NOW!!!" thats it..one big laughter and blushing everywhere..and immdeiatly one respondded " but mydaughters is married and happy with 2 kids in losangles...!!"..immediatly i said " oh really, thatsgr8, never knew u are a paati(granny) now:P"!!...and eventually reached madras...what seemd like a long trip was all made short my " superMAAMIS and THIER AMERICAN ADVENTURES".....
